Description from the seller
Christophe Ghesquiere, born in Lille in 1968, is a French painter whose artistic training and practice encompass photography, the visual arts and printmaking. Passionate about the arts from an early age, he presented his first works in 1990 at the Brooks Gallery in London, before taking part in numerous exhibitions in France.
His work has also achieved international recognition, with his paintings present in private collections in France, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Japan, South Africa and other countries.
This work belongs to a series created by Christophe Ghesquiere in tribute to Vincent van Gogh. Here, the artist revisits the world of the celebrated painter with humor and tenderness, incorporating elements associated with Van Gogh’s imagery while developing his own personal and contemporary interpretation.
The scene depicts a man sitting at a café terrace, accompanied by his dog, with a cup placed in front of him. Wearing a straw hat and a blue suit, the figure is rendered with highly expressive brushwork. Intense colors, dominated by blues, yellows, oranges and reds, give the composition considerable energy.
The presence of the dog and the character’s thoughtful attitude also bring a sensitive dimension to the scene. Overall, the painting offers an original and warm interpretation of Van Gogh’s world, in keeping with Ghesquiere’s approach in this series, where tribute is combined with humor and tenderness.
Dimensions: 50 × 61 cm, unframed.
The artist's biography will be provided in French with the artwork upon shipment.
