The Dutch photographer Gijsbert Hanekroot (Brussels, 1945) began his career in 1969 and worked in the 1970s for magazines and newspapers. His career as a photojournalist fits perfectly with the explosion of the rock scene, and he documented this golden age of music history masterfully – and photographed many of the greatest icons of that era.

Gijsbert strove to capture images that reveal the human behind the musician. Trying to express a deeper truth about his subjects resulted in portraits that are natural and intimate, relaxed and sincere.
