C. Srambets (XX) - Retrato de militar

Interesting European military portrait dated 1943, created during the Second World War period, depicting a young mid-bust soldier against a dark background. The portrait subject is dressed in a field green uniform, dark collar, shoulder boards, and rectangular insignia on both sides of the collar. These elements resemble the Kragenspiegel/Litzen used by the German Army (Wehrmacht) during World War II, so it could be a German serviceman; however, this identification should be considered an attribution based solely on the visible uniform features. The work preserves in the lower right corner an inscription or signature that is difficult to read, accompanied by the date 1943. The author has not been identified, so prudently it is presented as European School, first half of the 20th century. The sobriety of the facial treatment stands out, with a restrained expression, together with the characteristic palette of greens, ochres, and browns typical of military portraits of the era. The piece has an attractive historical and decorative presence, particularly interesting for collectors of 20th-century European painting, military portraits, military history memorabilia, and objects related to World War II. It is presented in its old gilded wooden frame with ornate relief decoration, which preserves a marked patina of time. The frame shows craquelure, cracks, wear, and occasional losses of the decoration and gilding, clearly visible in the photographs. The painted surface also shows signs of age and small marks consistent with its approximately eighty years. Dimensions of the artwork: 47 × 36 cm. Overall dimensions with frame: 60 × 50 cm. It will be carefully packaged and protected in transit, with special attention paid to the age and delicacy of the frame.
