Official promotional item (merchandising) produced between the late 1970s and the 1980s. At the time, large tobacco companies like Philip Morris funded massive advertising campaigns based on point collections or prize catalogs. Smokers could collect cigarette purchase proofs to redeem home accessories, lighters, playing cards, or, as in this case, branded board games.

The Merit brand printed on the case and accessories belongs to the historic Merit cigarette brand, launched on the U.S. market in January 1976 by the tobacco multinational Philip Morris International.
