Jokic was drafted by the Denver Nuggets in 2014, where he would serve as the center. In the 2018/2019 season he was selected for the NBA All-Star Game for the first time. Later in the season he helped the Denver Nuggets reach the Conference Finals. Led by veteran Paul Millsap and buddy Jamal Murray, with whom Jokic specialized in the pick-and-roll, they lost to the Portland Trail Blazers in a decisive Game 7. Under the leadership of Damian Lillard, the Portland Trail Blazers advanced to the Finals.

Jokić grew into the Nuggets’ breakout star and was named NBA MVP in the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons. In particular, his versatility was highly valued. Jokic did not excel in just one aspect of basketball, but posted high statistics across several aspects at the same time (scoring, rebounding, and assists). He led his team in 2022/23 to the first Western Conference title and thus the club’s first NBA Finals appearance. He also shone there. Jokic and the Nuggets were too strong for the Miami Heat 4–1 and became NBA champions for the first time. The Serbian himself was named Finals MVP. In the 2022/23 season Jokic became the first player ever to lead the playoffs in points (600), rebounds (269), and assists (190). Additionally, he recorded ten triple-doubles during the playoffs, which was also a record.
