Description from the seller

Period predominantly 19th century – first half of the 20th century
Elegant and coherent grouping of pietà objects intended for private and domestic devotion, made of metal alloys (bronze, brass, silvered and gilded metal), wood, terracotta and printed cardboard, of predominantly Italian origin and from the Alpine/Central European area.

The core is dominated by several Christological and Marian depictions.
At the center there is a wooden bust of the Suffering Christ crowned with thorns, well modeled and with intense expressiveness, mounted on a black wooden base. Beside it, a small gilt-brass statue of the Madonna with Child, of neoclassical-devotional taste, on a stepped architectural base.

• a refined wrought Gothic frame in darkened metal, with a colored miniature of the Sacred Heart of Mary with blue mantle and blazing heart;
• a large wooden crucifix with arms clad in gilded and silvered metal and a high-quality silvered metal corpus;
• a second crucifix in dark wood with geometric inlays and a metal corpus;
• a crucifix in silvered metal of intermediate size and several small hanging crosses and crucifixes, including one with the face of Christ and others in black and silver metal.

• an oval medal in darkened metal depicting the Immaculate Conception with the inscription “MARIA SINE LABE ORIGINALI CONCEPTA O.P.N.”;
• a flaming Sacred Heart in silvered metal;
• a circular medal or reliquary in metal with chain;
• a miniature architectural element in gilded metal on a circular pedestal;
• a gilded and carved wooden frame in Baroque-lite style containing a sheet printed with Latin prayers (including “Ave Maria” and blessing formulas)

The state of conservation is overall good, with normal signs of use, oxidation and patinas consistent with age; the gilding and silvering show localized wear that does not compromise readability and the overall charm of the group.
