Description from the seller

LÉTHÉ - Mixed technique: pigment ink print, brush-on varnish applied by hand, for the durable protection of the work.

An antique marble head drifts between two waters. The right side of the face has given way: where the cheek should be, an open cavity reveals the hollow interior, and red fish have entered like into a grotto.
The painting rests in this breach. The statue remains noble — mouth full, eyelid closed, hair sculpted in tight curls — but it has become a shelter, a sea object among others. The wound does not destroy the figure; it makes it habitable.
Very fine treatment of the veined, cracked marble, with clean breaks rendered edge by edge. The deep blue-black background is worked with depth, with a few rising bubbles. The fish, the only warm elements, guide the eye toward the opening.

Mixed technique: acrylic paint on pigment ink print, matte varnish.
Varnish applied by hand, for the depth of the blues and the durable protection of the work.
Support: premium canvas stretched on a wooden frame, ready to hang.
Format: 40 × 40 cm.
Signed LÉTHÉ · Galerie Labo Joconde / Atelier Joconde · certificate of authenticity provided.

LÉTHÉ is one of the creations bringing together artists Le Yack, Neo Pablo and Popsan within Atelier Joconde, a family studio where three sensibilities coexist: neo-realism, pop, and weird figuration. Under the name LÉTHÉ, after the river of forgetfulness in the Greek underworld, the Atelier plunges ancient figures into water and memory: submerged marbles, underwater lights, impasto and chiaroscuro.

LÉTHÉ brings together gods, muses and ancient busts seized at the moment they fade, swallowed, eroded, crossed by the living. The through-line: a dialogue between classical sculpture and a contemporary gaze, between what was meant to endure forever and what time carries away, where the pictorial matter enhances and transfigures the printed image.

Each work is a unique piece.

Seller's Story
