Pair of exclusive Venetian glass figurines 'Goldoni' made of Murano glass with aventurine and 24k gold, unsigned, in very good condition, each standing 21 cm high, 7 cm wide and 7 cm deep, dating to circa 1960–1970.
Description from the seller
Pair of exclusive Venetian figurines “Goldoni” – Murano glass, aventurine and gold – Attribution: Loredano Rosin / Franco Toffolo (1960s/1970s).
A remarkable pair of Venetian costume figurines “Goldoni” (Lady and Gentleman), crafted from authentic, masterful art glass on the island of Murano (Italy) in the mid-century period (late 1960s–1970s).
The figures depict eighteenth-century Italian aristocrats, inspired by the characters of Carlo Goldoni's plays and classical commedia dell'arte.
Craftsmanship and unique technique:
The sculptures boast a rare and exceptionally labor-intensive decorative technique. The bodies of the figures were modeled from dark glass in a deep hue, in which copper aventurine flakes (avventurina) are densely embedded that shimmer in light. Details such as ruffles around the neck, hats, and elegant pedestals were finished with colorless art glass saturated with 24-karat gold particles.
Attribution and origin:
The style, the precision in molding the dynamic folds of the garments, and the perfect balance of proportions point to the work of a renowned master specializing in figural sculpture. The pieces display strong workshop traits of the legendary artist Loredano Rosin (famed for his mastery in shaping human silhouettes in glass) or his close contemporary Franco Toffolo. They epitomize post-war Italian artisanal luxury.
