Description from the seller

ALBA NOX - Mixed media: ink print with pigmented ink, brush-on varnish applied by hand for the durable protection of the work.

A boy sitting on the edge of a roof, fishing rod in hand, reels in three white clouds caught on his line like fish. Below him, a nocturnal city in silhouettes — steeples, domes, chimneys — treated almost entirely in black.
The idea is childlike, the execution is not: the clouds are the only luminous areas of the canvas and visually weigh as much as the entire city. The thread that connects them is painted with a single, very fine stroke that crosses half the painting.
Sky background fully built up with a knife in overlapping scales, gray on black, giving a texture of a dense night. The clouds are pure white, thick paste, and the boy is lifted in a few clear planes on his shirt.

Mixed media: print with pigmented ink, varnish applied by hand for the durable protection of the work.
Varnish applied by hand, for the depth of the blues and the durable protection of the work.
Support: premium canvas stretched on wooden frame, ready to hang.
Format: 40 × 40 cm.
Signed ALBA NOX · Galerie Labo Joconde / Atelier Joconde · certificate of authenticity provided.

ALBA NOX is one of the creations bringing together the artists Le Yack, Neo Pablo and Popsan within Atelier Joconde, a family studio where three sensibilities coexist: neo-realism, pop, and free figuration. The Roman numerals refer to 1891, the year Albert Aurier defined symbolism in painting — a lineage claimed, not a dating of the work. Under the name ALBA NOX, the Atelier renounces any color to keep only black, gray, and white, in the symbolist tradition and grisaille with a knife: a matter stirred in scales, white impasto in thick paste, minuscule figures lost in dark masses and allegories that refuse to be resolved.

Each work is a unique piece.

Seller's Story
