Gustave Vidal (1895-1966) - Mooi zicht te porquerolles

Gustave Vidal was a French painter best known for his depictions of Provençal landscapes and harbor towns on the French Riviera. His thick impasto technique, applied with both a palette knife and a brush, was influenced by Impressionism and the abstract work he encountered during his stay in Paris.
The artist was born in 1895 in Vaucluse, France, and then studied with Pierre Grivolas at the School of Fine Arts in Avignon, where he was encouraged to paint *en plein air*. Vidal exhibited mainly in Avignon and at the Paris salons. He died in 1966 in Avignon, France.
