Portrait of a woman, oil on canvas, 35 by 25 cm, Italy, by Salvatore Maresca Serra (born 1956), dated 1960–1970, hand-signed.
Description from the seller
SALVATORE MARESCA SERRA (Naples, 1956) – Profile female portrait – Oil on canvas, 35 × 25 cm
An interesting and refined profile female portrait by Salvatore Maresca Serra, Neapolitan painter born in 1956, executed in oil on canvas and signed “S. Maresca Serra” at the bottom right.
The work presents a subject particularly interesting within the artist's body of work: compared with the seascapes and landscapes that appear more frequently on the market, the painting is entirely centered on the human figure and the expressive rendering of the face.
The young woman is depicted in profile, with her gaze lowered and a gathered, silent expression. The face, built through a delicate palette of pinkish flesh tones, ochre and browns, emerges from a deliberately undefined background. The hair, gathered at the nape of the neck, is treated with broad, textural brushstrokes, while the small red accent of the lips constitutes the most intense color point of the composition.
A particularly successful contrast is the greater definition reserved for the facial features and the freedom of brushwork in the surrounding areas: an immediate and synthetic painting that preserves the freshness of the gesture without sacrificing the construction of the features and the overall elegance of the figure.
On the back is the artist's stamp with the inscription:
“OPERA ORIGINALE DI SALVATORE MARESCA SERRA – CATALOGATA A CURA DELL’AUTORE”
a particularly interesting element from a documentary and attribution standpoint.
Technique: oil on canvas
Dimensions: 35 × 25 cm
Signature: at the bottom right, “S. Maresca Serra”
Back: stamp “Opera originale di Salvatore Maresca Serra – Catalogata a cura dell’autore”
Subject: profile female portrait
Period: 20th century
Conditions: generally good condition, with normal signs of age visible in the photographs.
