Description from the seller
San Michele Arcangelo – Sacred icon painted according to the ancient Byzantine canons
Sacred icon depicting Saint Michael the Archangel, made on a wooden panel measuring 40 × 55 cm, according to the principles and ancient canons of Byzantine iconography.
The work originates in the territory of Monte Sant'Angelo, a place deeply linked to the cult of the Archangel Michael and to the tradition of his apparitions at the Sacred Cave. The spiritual and cultural provenance of the author gives the work particular significance: the iconographer earned his formation certificate at the Abbey of Santa Maria di Pulsano, an important monastic center of the Gargano.
The creation of the icon follows the Byzantine tradition, in which the sacred image is not conceived merely as a decorative painting, but as a spiritual representation realized through forms, gestures, colors, and symbols codified by tradition.
A notable element accompanies the work: the icon has been blessed in the Sacred Cave of Saint Michael in Monte Sant'Angelo.
As a special tribute to the buyer, a small fragment of stone from the Cave of Saint Michael will also be delivered, coming directly from inside the Sacred Cave. This element, physically tied to the place of worship, makes the work particularly meaningful for a collector or for a devotee of the Archangel.
The combination of the icon and the fragment of the Cave thus creates a symbolic bond between the sacred image, the iconographic art, and the place of worship dedicated to Saint Michael on the Gargano.
