Pair of vintage decorative trays shaped as an open fan, made of thick transparent glass with a greenish tint and ornate gold and bronze floral details, mounted on decorative bronze bases from Murano, Italy, dating to 1950–1960; dimensions 25 cm wide, 30 cm high, 10 cm deep, in good vintage condition with minor signs of wear.
Description from the seller
Comprehensive description
Two particularly decorative vintage ornamental bowls, executed in thick transparent glass with a slightly greenish tint and a pronounced fan shape. The combination of the heavy structured glass, the graceful metal frames and the three-dimensional floral ornaments gives these objects a luxurious and striking appearance.
The bowls have the shape of an open fan. From the bottom central point, raised bands run through the glass to the wide upper edge, creating a beautifully ribbed relief. The upper edge is slightly wavy. Due to the thickness and structure of the glass, depending on the light, lovely reflections and shades emerge.
Floral decoration
Along one side of each bowl there is a richly worked three-dimensional flower composition. This consists of several flower buds in warm gold, bronze and amber tones, combined with contrasting cream-colored leaves or ribbon-like elements.
The decoration sits as if over the glass and gives the bowls a great deal of depth. Especially under warm lighting the gold-colored elements and the glass relief come into particularly beautiful relief.
Metal base
Each bowl is carried by a decorative metal frame. On both sides of the glass, metal supports rise up, while the base rests on elegantly shaped legs.
The legs are designed as long stylized leaves or feathers, which keeps the bowls elegant and airy despite their substantial glass form.
The combination of glass, floral ornamentation and decorative metal recalls the decorative interior style of the mid-20th century, with influences from Hollywood Regency and Mid-Century design.
Use
The objects can be placed purely as decorative art objects, but due to their open form they are also suitable for, for example, a dried flower arrangement or other decorative presentation.
Because these are two matching pieces, they look particularly striking when arranged symmetrically on a sideboard, mantel, sidetable or console.
Condition
The bowls are in good vintage condition by visible impression, with normal wear and aging traces appropriate to such older decorative objects.
In the glass there are structural differences, small air bubbles and irregularities visible. These largely seem related to the production method of the thick structured glass and contribute to its character. In the metal and floral parts there may be slight discoloration, patina and signs of use in places.
