Description from the seller
Caviar is Dollars – 1 kg Edition
XTC
Sculptural work composed of an authentic large-format 1 kg caviar box, showing light signs of use consistent with its nature as a repurposed object. The lid is adorned with a graphic motif inspired by American monetary imagery; the interior contains decorative reproductions of banknotes, all fixed and protected by a varnish.
The box is presented on a black 10 mm thick plexiglass base, providing a glossy and contemporary finish.
Signed and numbered out of 20 copies, with 4 artist proofs (EA), on the base. Certificate of authenticity provided.
The shipped copy may differ from the one pictured in the photographs.
Careful shipment with tracking.
Born in 1978 in central France, XTC is a self-taught visual artist. His work draws on design, Pop Art and urban aesthetics. Through the détournement of objects from contemporary consumer culture, he questions the signs of desire, luxury and the circulation of images.
Through sculpture, he combines painting, synthetic materials and sometimes minerals to create compositions where the codes of popular culture meet those of the precious object and urban art.
