Barques de pêcheurs à Martigues, a 19th‑century oil painting by André Maglione (1838‑1923) depicting fishermen on the quay at Martigues, France, oil on panel, 76 × 93 cm with the original gilded frame.

Signed bottom right,
Wax seal "AM" of the artist on the back of the panel,
Beautiful, finely executed work by the Marseille painter André Maglione, depicting a lively view of fishermen on the quay of Bescon in Martigues.
The artist has captured the atmosphere of a early morning on the Mediterranean through his color palette and plays of light.
A pupil of the painter Emile Loubon and close to painters Félix Ziem, Joseph Suchet and Adolphe Monticelli, André Maglione exhibited at the Paris Salon as early as 1866. He founded the Marseille Artistic Circle in 1867, and regularly appeared at the exhibitions of the Association of Marseille artists.
In 1903, he published a work entitled "Monticelli intime de 1871 à sa mort" where he describes Paul Cézanne’s encounters with the painter Monticelli.
Dimensions: 45.5 x 62 cm without frame and 76 x 93 cm with its imposing original gold wooden frame.
