Beautiful work by the Avignon painter Jean-Baptiste Brunel which depicts a general view of the city of Avignon from the Barthelasse Island in Avignon. In the foreground one can see the vegetation of Barthelasse Island with its dawns and the aquatic plants along the Rhône. The artist has perfectly captured the reflections on the water. In the background, the city of Avignon is visible with its emblematic monuments: the ramparts, the Pont d’Avignon, the Rocher des Doms, and the Palais des Papes.
The color palette used by the artist perfectly represents the colors of the vegetation and the creamy autumn sky.

Student of Paul Saïn, Bouguereau, and Tony Robert-Fleury, he exhibited from 1884 to 1914 at the Salon des artistes français. He devoted himself to painting landscapes of Avignon and its surroundings in a classical and faithful manner. He strives to use a color palette that provides harmony in the tones of the seasons. Nicknamed the "Painter of Dawns" due to his numerous paintings capturing the dawn of the morning, which our painting testifies to. He has the peculiarity of painting cloudy skies in tones of gray and pink depending on the weather and the seasons.

Note: An old minor restoration is to be noted and is visible on the back of the canvas.
