Description from the seller
DELAPLACE Jacques (1767-1831)
«Portrait of Monsieur»
Oil on canvas,
Signed on the left in the middle and dated 1810
Beautiful work, finely executed, by the painter Jacques Delaplace known as a portrait painter and especially for his miniatures.
He was a pupil of Chatelain and Renoux at the Academy of Painting.
Over the course of his life he produced numerous portraits of the high society and politics of the era, such as that of Prince Cambacéres, of Mme la maréchale Bessières, of Baron Fouché, of the Empress… but also of the artistic world such as that of Mme Chevigni, artist of the Opera, or of Mme Chameroi, principal dancer of the Opera.
Dimensions: 32 x 24 cm without a frame and 47 x 39 cm with its original Empire-period gilded frame.
An ink annotation, difficult to decipher, on the back of the portrait frame seems to indicate the name of the sitters.
The portrait of Madame is for sale (forming a pair).
