Important complete 12-volume collection of William Shakespeare’s works, published by the Club Français du Livre in a bilingual edition presenting the texts in English and French.
Edition produced according to the artistic conception and layouts of Jacques Daniel. The printing as well as the binding were carried out in Bergamo, Italy, by the Istituto Italiano d'Arti Grafiche.
The publication spanned several years, with Volume I completed on 15 July 1962, while Volume XII was completed on 15 June 1964.
This is a numbered, off-sale edition, exclusively reserved for subscribers. The last presented volume bears number 10632.
A set comprising the 12 volumes, numbered 1 to 12, forming the complete collection. The spines bear the general title Complete Works – Shakespeare, the volume number, and the main works contained in each tome.
Among the works visible on the spines are notably Richard III, The Comedy of Errors, The Taming of the Shrew, Romeo and Juliet, Richard II, A Midsummer Night's Dream, King John, The Two Gentlemen of Verona, Henry IV, Much Ado About Nothing, Henry V, Julius Caesar, The Winter’s Tale, Hamlet, The Merry Wives of Windsor, Troilus and Cressida, All’s Well That Ends Well, Measure for Measure, Othello, Macbeth, King Lear, Antony and Cleopatra, Timon of Athens, Coriolanus, Pericles, Cymbeline, The Tempest, Henry VIII, as well as the lyric work.
Uniform olive-green bindings, with gold decorations and titles and black spine pieces. The whole presents a beautiful visual harmony.
Complete set but showing signs of use. Scuffing and wear visible on bindings, particularly at the headcaps, joints and ends of spines. Gilding shows some attenuation in places.
Edition sought primarily for its completeness, bilingual nature, and numbered status, as well as for its uniform twelve-volume presentation.
