The undertaking is in the tradition of departmental floras that developed strongly during the 19th century, when naturalists undertook to compile precise inventories of the vegetation of each territory in order to better understand the geographic distribution of species and to contribute to the advancement of French botany -
The main objective of Migout is to provide an instrument enabling the recognition of the plants that grow in Allier, arranging them according to the principles of botanical classification then in use and giving botanists, naturalists, pharmacists, physicians, teachers and amateur naturalists the means to determine the species encountered in the field -
