Description from the seller
Rare two-volume set of this major edition by the Geneva naturalist Charles Bonnet, devoted to the study of natural phenomena, the organization of living beings, and the search for a general order allowing understanding of the structure and functioning of nature -
The work belongs to the natural philosophy of the 18th century, at a time when scientific observation, philosophical reflection, and natural theology remained closely linked, and when scholars sought to discover in the organization of living beings the general laws that bear witness to the harmony of the world -
Bonnet adopts an approach based on observation, analysis, and comparison, but he does not limit himself to describing the organisms or phenomena he studies, for he constantly seeks to uncover behind the apparent diversity of forms a coherent organization and a continuity of nature -
C. Bonnet - Contemplation of Nature - 1769 - Volume I and II - Marc-Michel Rey -
[4], xlv, [1], 244 pp. ; xi, 1 blank, 301, [3] Pages.
