Traditional Japanese Aizu lacquerware document box (bunko) featuring an elegant maki-e design of quails beneath hagi (Japanese bush clover).
The glossy black lacquer surface is decorated with delicate gold and colored maki-e, creating a refined autumn scene. The combination of quails and hagi is a traditional Japanese motif associated with the beauty of the autumn season.
The original box is included. The label identifies the item as "Hagi ni Uzura" (Quails and Bush Clover), No. 1050.
