Description from the seller

A magnificent and authentic marine repeating compass in solid brass from the famous SAGEM brand (Model M.S. 4). This military navigation instrument of the French Navy is a genuine piece of maritime history, ideal for collectors or for interior decoration in an industrial, loft, or seaside style.

On a ship, this instrument was used to reproduce in real time the heading indicated by the main gyroscopic compass (the master compass) for the helmsman or officers on the bridge.

Specifications of the piece:

Manufacturer: SAGEM (Argenteuil - Montluçon)
Model: M.S. 4
Precise dating: Official CCMT Market No. 10961 dated 22/12/1953
Materials: Heavy solid-brass housing, original red copper nameplate, thick protective glass.

Condition: Very good preserved condition "in its original state", with a superb antique patina (possibility to polish for a bright mirror finish). The black inner dial, hands, and double scales are impeccable and perfectly legible. No cracks in the glass. The side adjustment knobs are present.

Heavy and robust object, superb mid-20th-century military-grade craftsmanship.
