Military School Nunziatella ring in 925 silver, weight 7.72 g, with multicoloured enamel crest and the inscriptions 18 November 1787 and the motto Preparo alla vita ed alle armi, intended as a commemorative honorary piece.
Description from the seller
Nunziatella Military School Ring – Silver 925 – Enamelled Coat of Arms
Interesting commemorative and belonging ring from the prestigious Nunziatella Military School of Naples, made in 925 sterling silver and featuring a prominent setting with a multicolored enamelled coat of arms.
Nunziatella, founded on November 18, 1787, is one of the oldest and most prestigious Italian and European military training institutions, with a centuries-old history closely linked to the city of Naples and the training of officers.
On the front of the ring is depicted the coat of arms of the Nunziatella Military School, finely worked and embellished with enamels in red, blue, black and gold.
Particularly interesting are the inscriptions on the two sides of the setting: on one side “18 November 1787”, the historic founding date of the School, and on the other the famous motto “Preparo alla vita ed alle armi”.
Also present is the number “55” engraved on the side. Since documentation allowing a definite determination of its meaning has not been found, it could refer to a personal, identifier, or relate to the ring’s history.
This type of jewel is linked to the tradition of belonging rings worn by students and alumni of military institutions. Since no documentation proving an official delivery by the School was located, the piece is prudently presented as a commemorative and belonging ring of the Nunziatella, presumably intended for a student or alumnus of the Institute.
The piece can be dated to the second half of the 20th century.
Characteristics:
* Material: 925 silver
* Hallmark: 925
* Weight: 7.72 grams
* Inner diameter: 22 mm
* Coat of arms of the Nunziatella Military School with multicolored enamel decorations
* Inscription: “18 November 1787”
* Motto: “Preparo alla vita ed alle armi”
* Engraved number: 55
The ring shows patina, tarnish and normal signs of time and use, visible in the photographs. A choice has been made not to carry out invasive polishing in order to preserve its appearance and patina.
An interesting piece of Italian militaria, particularly suited to collectors of military relics, Nunziatella memorabilia and objects related to historic academies and military schools.
