Description from the seller

Tamara de Lempicka: “Doctor Boucard, 1929”.
Signed on the plate.

Color offset.
Condition: the work is in excellent condition.
Format: 31 x 44 cm.

The artist was born Tamara Gorska in Warsaw, in 1898 or 1902. She studied at the Art Academy in Saint Petersburg and married a certain Lempicki.
After the Russian Revolution she moved (with her parents and her sister Adrienne) in 1918 to Paris, where she immersed herself in the cosmopolitan life of French high society.
In 1938 she emigrated to the United States and settled in Beverly Hills. After World War II she traveled through America and Europe under the name Baroness Kuffner. In 1980 she died in Mexico.

Without any effort the painter uses motifs from different centuries, places styles and material from art and cultural history into play and quotes, ironises, invents and parodies to create a tempting novelty from the interplay.
On the one hand we still see the 19th century, on the other hand the power of the 20th-century machine world is announced. Tamara de Lempicka was particularly open to the abundant citings of Art Nouveau and Art Déco.

Nevertheless she was and remains a representative painter of the Neue Sachlichkeit. Her portrait of Doctor Boucard, the inventor of lacteol, is a typical product of the movement. His short, neatly brushed-back hair, his simple yet elegant trench coat, his tie with a stylish tie pin, his alert and intelligent facial expression, and the scientist’s props (the microscope and the test tube) make Doctor Boucard a realistic representative of the new, positivist science.

The original painting is located in a private collection in Paris, France.

Never framed and kept in a dark archival storage between protective acid-free paper.
The shown photos are part of the description.
