Description from the seller
ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD EXISTS - EDITION 1/1
With this landscape-format artwork, Medsan places Totoro, the forest’s guardian spirit born from Hayao Miyazaki’s brush for Studio Ghibli, into the vocabulary of Japanese ink printmaking. The composition draws on sumi-e and literati painting: an image that imitates ink wash and aquarelle, where the black bleeds into greenish mists rather than defining the form. The cartouche メドサン signs the lower right corner, diagonally opposite the red seal placed on the left.
The creature sleeps, rolled up on itself, muzzle resting on the ground, eyes closed and whiskers reduced to a few fine lines; a large leaf held above its head serves as an umbrella, a direct quote from the bus stop scene in the rain. In the hollow of its belly opens a second image, like a window: a clearing with pale trunks, white fireflies suspended, and a lit lantern that casts an amber halo at the exact center of the work. Medsan’s restrained palette comprises three tones — black ink, moss greens, warm ochre — laid on a light background that imitates the grain of old paper, while green splashes surround the silhouette and anchor it to the ground. The body traces a spiral and continuously brings the viewer’s gaze back to this inner light.
The mashup says one simple, vast thing: the guardian does not watch over the forest; he contains it. While he sleeps, the clearing stays lit, the fireflies keep rising, the lantern never goes out. It is an image of childhood and sleep as places where the natural world remains intact.
A contemplative, silent piece, ideal for adding a poetic and Japanese-inspired touch to a minimalist interior, for collectors devoted to Ghibli culture as much as to ink art. The buyer receives a unique giclée print on canvas, produced by pigment printing, numbered 1/1 and hand-signed.

About the Atelier :
Atelier Joconde is a collective of artists gathered around a living, plural contemporary creation. Installed as a genuine artistic production space, the studio operates both in collective creation and in individual approaches, depending on projects and artworks. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative, introspective body of work with cinematic and realist influences. By his side, Medsan, focused on pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography, and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo engages in a more instinctive research, blending abstract art, outsider art, and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, realized, and followed within the atelier, with a shared artistic standard and an identity of its own for each artist.
