With this square-format artwork, Medsan elevates Eugène Delacroix's Liberty Leading the People (1830) from French Romanticism to blue-and-white porcelain, then traverses it with veins of kintsugi. The barricade of the Three Glorious Days is caught in the cobalt shades of export ceramics, crossed by long gold-crack lines. Two traditions respond to each other: the European revolutionary allegory and the Japanese aesthetic that refuses to hide fracture.

Liberty advances at the center, torso bare, flag raised with one arm and the bayonet rifle in the other, mouth open in a cry. Around her, the bourgeois in a top hat grips his weapon, the Paris boy brandishes his pistols, the wounded man kneels and looks up at her, and bodies pile up in the foreground. Medsan withholds almost all color: cobalt blue alone carries the values, and only the red of the flag and the cockade at the bottom of the image escape, tiny embers in a porcelain world. Golden cracks run diagonally from the top of the frame to the bare feet of the figure, continually drawing the eye back to her.

Kintsugi repairs the broken ceramic by highlighting its cracks in gold rather than masking them, and that is the whole key to the mashup: revolution is a fracture, and gold asserts that what has been broken is not erased, it is valued. Entrusting a tableau of riot to porcelain, a precious material that a single gesture can destroy, adds tension: what a people conquers remains fragile. The wounded man and the running child become the two halves of the same crack, loss and momentum.
