With this vertically formatted artwork, Medsan brings Dracaufeu — Charizard, the fire dragon most famous in the Pokémon franchise — into the repertoire of blue-and-white Japanese porcelain, the sometsuke of the Arita kilns. The composition borrows from the grand ceremonial plate: stylized clouds in scrolls, jagged mountains at the bottom of the field, and a central unique motif that occupies the entire surface. Above it runs the network of kintsugi, the Japanese art that repairs broken ceramics by highlighting the fractures instead of hiding them.

The dragon is captured in a descending flight, mouth open, the membrane of its wings hatch-worked in cobalt and its long, scaly tail curling toward the right of the field. The entire image is rendered in a single color, this furnace-blue ranging from the finest lines to the densest wash — except for two orange notes, the flame at the end of the tail and the one escaping from an open Poké Ball at the bottom left, from which paw prints emanate. The lines of fracture, veined with a stroke that imitates gold repetition, traverse the scene diagonally and connect these two centers of flame, guiding the eye from the extended wing at the top right to the eviscerated sphere. The cartouche メドサン signs the work in the lower right corner, like a mark of the end of a piece.

The mashup says something simple and fair: the creature has escaped, its Poké Ball has cracked, and the object that contained it now bears its scars as an ornament. By treating a 1990s childhood icon as heritage porcelain, Medsan gives it the age and fragility of a collectible object, then elevates it by the very gesture of kintsugi — what has been broken is more valuable for having been broken.
