Description from the seller

Pablo Picasso: “Women Running on the Beach, 1922”.

Color offset lithograph, in good condition.
Copyright: VG Bild-Kunst, Bonn, 1991.

After his Cubist phase Picasso returned to classical painting. A stay of eight weeks in Rome in 1917, during which he designed costumes and décors for Diaghilev's Russian Ballet, gave him new inspiration.

In the twenties he produced a series of monumental figural groups in the style of classical antiquity; one of them was Women Running on the Beach, a work he painted in the summer of 1922 during a holiday in the Breton seaside town of Dinard.
Two large female bodies fill the entire surface of the painting.
With enormous strides, outstretched arms and heads tilted back they run toward their goal. Both women appear semi-naked, their powerful movements having caused the straps of their light, ultra-thin dresses to slide from their shoulders.

Picasso drew inspiration for this work from Roman wall paintings in the Villa of the Mysteries in Pompeii. Two years later he used the small-scale ballet Women Running on the Beach as the starting point for the designs of the curtain for a new production of the Russian Ballet, "Le Train Bleu".
The ballet, named after the elegant express train that ran between Paris and the Riviera, had as its theme the pleasant pursuits of holidaymakers along the Mediterranean coast.

Never framed and kept in a dark archival storage between protective acid-free paper.
The photos shown are part of the description.
