Sailors Tool - Wrought iron - Marlinspike Sailors Tool

Up for sale is an exceptional, authentic piece of 19th-century maritime history. This heavy, hand-forged wrought iron marlinspike (or rope fid) is a classic example of pre-industrial, pre-mass-manufactured sailor's equipment from the Golden Age of Sail.

Craftsmanship & Condition:
This tool beautifully showcases the true markers of historic blacksmith artistry. The iron body features a distinct, beautifully textured patina with authentic age-related pitting and hand-hammered facets along its tapered length. The top of the tool displays a classic "needle-eye" lanyard hole that was cleanly punched out while the iron was red hot, leaving the traditional, slight bulge in the metal around the opening.It remains incredibly solid and heavy, retaining its structural integrity after centuries. The surface has been left entirely original to preserve its highly collectible historic patina (it has not been scrubbed, chemically cleaned, or wire-brushed). It comes with a simple jute/hemp twine lanyard loop attached through the eyelet.
