Description from the seller

beautiful still life by Albert De Deken

Albert De Deken was a Belgian artist born in Schoten in 1915 and who died in 2003 in Kapellen. He was a painter, draftsman and watercolourist. Education at the Higher Institute under Is. Opsomer and at the Academy in Antwerp, at the Grande Chaumière in Paris, a pupil of O. Friesz in 1948. He painted, among other things, portraits, nudes, interiors, still lifes, compositions with figures, landscapes, seascapes. Spontaneous and fresh intimist, Fauvist color palette, expressionistic design. Traveled often, among others to Norway (1947), the Netherlands (1948), Paris (1950), Virginia (1988). From the press: “His work radiates youthful liveliness, because he always works with fresh, bright colors, and also because he does not pursue exaggerated accuracy in the rendering, but an essence as the result of the accuracy of the brush with which the color is applied.” He was a teacher at the Antwerp Academy from 1954 to 1980. In his younger years he was a talented footballer and played, among others, in the national team. Mentioned in BAS I and Two Centuries of Signatures by Belgian Artists.
