French school (XIX) - Portrait d'une dame

Realistic portrait of a lady from the bourgeois high society of the Second Empire (1850-1870). The palette is dark, with a focus on chiaroscuro concentrated on the face, hands, and the details of the headdress; the work is finely executed. For the headdress and the bow, the artist has depicted them with a beautiful excess of painted material in relief. Intimate portrait.

The period frame is in very good condition with only some localized losses of gilding, otherwise without any flaw. The portrait shows a few craquelures as shown in the photo but is in very good condition.

The wood at the back has a beautiful period patina.
