Original French edition of this famous Arctic exploration narrative devoted to the Alabama expedition to the northeast of Greenland.

Beautiful octavo-format work, preserved in its publisher’s polychrome binding with a red background, adorned with a prominent polar illustration on the front cover depicting the explorer with his dog team. Spine decorated and titled in gold letters, gilt edges, endpapers and pastedowns of blue paper.

The work comprises 389 pages and is richly illustrated with 73 photographic illustrations, including plates outside the text and illustrations within the text. It also includes a photographic frontispiece as well as a color folding map of the northeast of Greenland, showing the expedition’s route.

This expedition, led by the Danish explorer and naval officer Ejnar Mikkelsen, is notably famous for the extreme conditions encountered after the Alabama disappeared in the ice and for the survival of the expedition members in the Arctic.

Condition: an old copy showing signs of use and wear consistent with its age; interior generally well preserved. Folding map present. Some foxing/time stains may be present. Please look carefully at the photographs which are an integral part of the description.
