Antique petrol/oil lantern in tin with sliding glass – Early 1900s
Description
Charming vintage portable lantern with a square footprint, made of tin and iron, dating from the late 19th century to the first half of the 20th century. A typical example of functional lighting for work, for countryside use, or railways.
The object preserves all original structural elements:
Structure: Iron sheet frame with a top smokestack for heat exhaust and the original wire handle for hanging or carrying.
Glass: Four panels of transparent glass inserted into vertical guides, fully removable to facilitate cleaning and ignition.
Burner: Internal circular metal reservoir, removable, complete with burner featuring a mechanical adjustment wheel and an original-era flat cotton wick.
Conditions
The item presents good historical and conservational condition. It shows an authentic antique patina with oxidation and widespread surface rust that attest its originality without compromising structural solidity. Glass is intact, free of cracks or chips.
