Karl Lagasse, a renowned artist, gained fame in 2009 with his sculptures One Dollar, ranking in the same year among the ten best sculptors under 30 according to Artprice. In 2012, the New York publication Farameh identified him as one of the fifty best contemporary artists, inspired by traditional American icons, in its volume FOR WHICH IT STANDS: Americana in Contemporary Art. More recently, in 2016, during the Art Paris Art Fair, the President of the French Republic warmly praised Karl for his impressive 2-meter bronze sculpture One Dollar, exhibited at the Grand Palais.
Kar l's artistic journey began at age 7 with collages, sparked by his meeting with sculptor César Baldaccini. He later approached tagging and graffiti in the Paris metro, continuing to love collages. The artist Yvaral Vasarely encouraged him to fuse his tags with collages. In 2003 Karl prepared his first show in Paris, which led to his first solo exhibition in 2006 at Isy Brachot gallery in Brussels. In 2008 he returned to Paris with a show combining paintings, sculptures and video elements inside the Espace Pierre Cardin.
Karl particularly enjoys presenting his works during international exhibitions. In 2011 he was represented by Bel Air Fine Art at the Art Monaco fair with his Cryptogram One creation. The following year he presented his One Dollar works on the theme "In God We Trust" at the Artco France gallery. His 2016 solo show at Atrium gallery in Marbella, Spain, was opened by the mayor, who praised his works in front of the international press.
In 2010 he was chosen to represent Deauville at the world championship Horsemania in Lexington, where he created a horse sculpture dedicated to the event. In 2012 he donated Cryptogram One, a bronze symbolizing peace and love, to Deauville, placed at the city entrance. In the same year, in collaboration with Corbis, he created a monumental sculpture for the Cannes Festival, using photographs from 1945 to 2011, signed by figures such as Alexandra Lamy and Matthew McConaughey.
The artist gained notoriety in 2009 with his "One Dollar" sculptures, which placed him among the world’s top 30 under-30 sculptors according to Artprice.
In 2017 he was selected to design the trophies for the 43rd American Film Festival. Inspired by "Cryptogramme One", he created a mirror-finish aluminum alloy trophy, with inscriptions such as "Hope", "7e Art" and "Deauville" on its four faces. For the 46th edition of the Festival in 2020, Karl Lagasse was commissioned to create a new trophy inspired by a emblematic Deauville symbol: the drawing of the barriers separating the cabines on the Planches.
In 2016, France Culture mentioned Karl in an article about his monumental installation, A Piece of Heaven on Earth, which combines a Maserati wrapped in white plastic and a statue of Jesus surrounded by dollar-shaped sculptures, symbolizing human debt. This work was unveiled during Art Paris Art Fair 2015 in collaboration with Maserati. In 2017 he produced the Deauville American Film Festival Trophy, drawing inspiration from his Cryptogramme One and adding messages such as "Hope" and "7e Art" on the trophies.
