Description from the seller
Gold-set choker and brooch, carved coconuts and diamonds - Brazilian goldsmithing, possible reproduction of nineteenth-century pieces. A set of traditional Brazilian goldsmith work, composed of a gold choker and a brooch, executed in gold, carved coconut and diamonds. The choker features a fine gold chain and a front composed of an articulated sequence of black-toned carved coconut rosettes, each enriched with gold floral appliqués and a central diamond. From the composition hang five ovate pendants, equally in carved coconut, adorned with bands, small elements and terminals in gold. The contrast between the intense black of the organic material, the yellow of the gold and the brilliance of the diamonds gives the piece a particularly striking character. The brooch, designed in the form of a stylized branch, has a carved coconut structure punctuated by small gold appliqués. In the center, a rosette similar to those used in the choker, with a gold flower and a central diamond, is flanked by vegetal elements and leaves executed in gold. The reverse retains the pin and gold closure system. The stones currently mounted are diamonds, placed in a later intervention carried out by jewelers. According to available information, the stones originally present were "monas-novas", subsequently replaced by diamonds in order to enhance the set. The ensemble sits within the tradition of Brazilian jewelry that combines gold with dark carved organic materials, exploring chromatic contrast and a very characteristic floral and vegetal decoration.
