In “Portrait #119” a frontal face is constructed through large geometric color planes and clearly defined black lines. I fragment the figure through a composition close to neocubism and the hard-edge aesthetic, but I maintain a serene, direct, and deeply human expression.

I use dark greens, burgundy, and blacks to add depth, while red, cobalt blue, and orange introduce strength and energy. The cream areas balance the composition and allow the more intense colors to breathe. The chromatic difference between the two eyes deliberately breaks the symmetry of the face and represents different ways of observing and understanding the same reality.

The vertical nose acts as the central axis of the composition. From it I organize the different parts of the face, while the color bands of the neck extend the geometric rhythm toward the lower part of the canvas. With this combination of shapes and contrasts I seek to create a figure situated between portrait, mask, and the symbolic representation of identity.

This painting belongs to my series “The 1000 Faces,” a project formed by one thousand original, numbered, and distinct portraits. Through this series I explore human diversity and the idea that each face contains a unique, irreproducible story and identity. Although all works share the same visual language, I never repeat exactly the same combination of forms, colors, or expressions.
