A particularly interesting testimony on prison, female crime, moral re-education, and the condition of female detainees in the 19th century.
Copy of XII + 392 pages, octavo format.
Beautiful old binding in full black leather, richly decorated with gold tooling, all edges gilt, with frames and ornamental motifs on the boards, spine with many gilt raised bands and gold title “LES FEMMES EN PRISON”.
Binding showing some rubbing and wear but still very decorative.
Interior complete, with foxing of period provenance, more or less pronounced.
Original edition of 1843, very rare, unique on the market, and particularly interesting for its content and its beautiful old binding.
