In “Portrait #121” I build a female figure with a frontal gaze using geometric planes, flat colors, and precise black lines. I divide the face into two different color zones: one half cream and the other lavender. This separation introduces a visual duality, but the expression remains serene and balanced.

The black hair forms a large curved silhouette crossed by a strongly marked diagonal. I use this shape to frame the face and direct attention to the blue eyes, which function as one of the main visual focal points of the composition. The red lips and the blue earring add two small color points that reinforce the figure’s personality.

In the background I combine cobalt blue, intense orange, lavender, cream, and black. Rectangular and diagonal shapes extend into the clothing, connecting the figure with the entire pictorial space. I am interested in the contrast between the quiet of the face and the movement produced by the lines that traverse the lower part of the canvas.

The composition maintains an apparent simplicity, but it is built from tensions between symmetry and asymmetry, warm and cool colors, curves and angles. With these elements I aim to create a silent, confident presence open to different interpretations.

This work belongs to my series “The 1000 Faces,” a project consisting of one thousand original, numbered, and distinct portraits. Through this series I explore human diversity and the capability of shapes, colors, and expressions to build unique identities. Although all paintings share the same geometric language, I never repeat exactly the same face.
