A superb original drawing by Wifredo Lam, offered by the artist to Adam Biro.
This drawing constitutes a precious testament to the friendship that united Wifredo Lam to Adam Biro, editor, writer and French art historian. Founder of Éditions Adam Biro, specialized in art books, he maintained privileged connections with many major artists of the 20th century. This work, personally gifted by Lam, thus benefits from a remarkable provenance.
Born in Cuba in 1902, Wifredo Lam (1902–1982) is one of the major figures of 20th-century art. A friend of Pablo Picasso and close to André Breton, he developed a unique artistic language, blending Cubism, Surrealism and Afro-Cuban heritage. His works are today preserved in the most prestigious international collections, notably the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, the Centre Pompidou, the Tate and the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía. His influence and the numerous exhibitions dedicated to him in the world’s leading museums attest to his place among the indispensable artists of modern art.
