Pair of Chinese Blue & White Porcelain Ginger Jars / Tea Caddies – Prunus Blossom – Gilt Metal Lids

Pair of Chinese blue and white porcelain ginger jars / tea caddies, decorated with the traditional prunus or plum blossom motif, also known as “Ice Plum” decoration.

The pair consists of two matching but differently shaped lidded vessels. The taller cylindrical example is suitable as a traditional tea caddy, while the rounded vessel has the characteristic form of a ginger jar.

Both pieces are richly decorated in deep cobalt blue and white with flowering plum branches, blossoms and small buds. The decoration continues across the bodies and lids, with additional geometric border decoration around the lower sections and shoulder of the rounded jar.

Both covers are fitted with contrasting gold-coloured metal rims, giving the pair an elegant Chinoiserie appearance. The lids have been photographed separately to show their construction and the interior of the vessels.

The porcelain has a highly glossy glazed surface and the decoration is clearly visible from all sides. The underside of both pieces has also been photographed, including the unmarked bases.

Based on the photographs and measurements taken, the rounded ginger jar is approximately 14 cm in diameter, while the taller cylindrical tea caddy is approximately 15 cm high.

No maker’s mark, seal or other identifying manufacturer’s mark is visible on the undersides in the supplied photographs, so no specific workshop, dynasty or production date has been attributed.

Condition: overall very good decorative condition with normal minor signs of handling and age/use. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the condition description.
