Old glass-cut and gilded metal liqueur fountain – swan decor – France
Description:
Very elegant old French liqueur fountain, of good size, about 41.5 cm tall.
The reservoir is made of cut glass/crystal with a geometric diamond-point and lozenge pattern, especially luminous when light passes through the facets.
The whole is richly adorned with a gilded metal mount, with two side handles featuring swan decorations, a very elaborately worked upper part, a decorative stopper and a fluted pedestal.
The fountain also has its original faucet.
The mechanism has been tested with water: the faucet turns and water flows correctly.
An old merchant label is preserved under the piece. It can be read, in particular, the mentions “JEAN-LOUIS …RIGNET…” and “OBJETS D’A…”. The label is old, worn and partially torn; its complete inscription could not be identified with certainty.
Era / style
France, probably 19th century.
Empire / Restoration-inspired decor, with a mount evoking French productions from that period.
The model recalls certain old French cut-crystal liqueur fountains in cut crystal and gilded bronze, but no definite attribution to Baccarat, Saint-Louis or Le Creusot should be taken without further expert assessment.
Condition:
Old-style condition with normal signs of use and age.
- The faucet has an accident: the upper part of its handle/manoeuvre is broken or missing. Despite this, the faucet remains in place, turns and allows water to flow.
The mount shows signs of wear, small scratches and patina related to age.
The old label under the base is partially torn and worn, but it has been preserved.
The glass presents a good overall appearance; any small marks related to age should be examined in the photographs.
