Description from the seller
“Golden Light” stands in the tradition of European landscape painting, but reinterprets the motif of nature in the spirit of modernism. It combines realism and abstraction, matter and light, as well as classical symbolism and contemporary expressions. The work can be stylistically located between symbolic expressionism and modern nature abstraction.
The style of the painting shows a mix of impasto brushwork and metallic surface effects. This combination recalls the tradition of using gold in art, as it already played a central role in Byzantine icon painting and later in Gustav Klimt. Here the gold is not understood as ornament, but as a carrier of light and atmosphere. The sculptural texture of the birch bark and the changing foliage create a balance between representational depiction and painterly abstraction.
“Golden Light” is connected with tendencies in contemporary landscape painting that no longer merely depict nature, but understand it as an experience of light, color, and materiality. The work thus combines a traditional pictorial language with a modern sensitivity to surfaces and light effects, which has increasingly gained significance in painting since the second half of the 20th century.
