Rare and sought-after first absolute edition of the famous ornithological treatise "The Book of Birds," written by Graziano Vallon and published in Genoa by the publisher A. Donath in 1911.
This volume represents a milestone of Italian ornithological scholarship in the early twentieth century. The work is enriched by a very rich iconographic apparatus consisting of 30 color plates out of text (illustrating 230 species of birds) and 60 black-and-white drawings interspersed in the text.

The volume presents in a fine period binding in brown half-leather with corners. The spine is decorated with elegant gold tooling that evokes flying birds, gold fillets, and a blue leather inlay with the title and author stamped in gold.
Condition of the text and plates: the volume is complete with all 30 color plates. Some pages show slight foxing due to age, but the paper is solid and fully usable.
The binding is firmly intact, with light and physiological signs of wear at the margins and on the headcaps that do not compromise its beauty.
