Italian school (XX) - Notte stellata sul Rodano, da Van Gogh

Oil painting on canvas, a faithful copy of the famous "Starry Night on the Rhône" by Vincent van Gogh (Arles, 1888, now at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris). The night scene depicts the Rhône River with the sky deep blue dotted with stars rendered with thick, swirling brushstrokes typical of the artist's post-impressionist technique; the city lights on the opposite bank reflect on the water in long vertical gold and green trails. In the foreground, on the grassy bank, two figures stand observing the river, while a small sailing boat is moored along the bank. Textured and vibrant brushwork, patches of pure color juxtaposed, a palette dominated by midnight blue, greens and yellow-orange of the reflected lights — faithful rendering of van Gogh's characteristic style.
