Ritratto di Adele Bloch-Bauer I, after Gustav Klimt, oil on canvas, original edition by an Italian School (XX), 60 x 50 cm, unsigned, in excellent condition, Italy, Impressionist style, depicting a still life.
Description from the seller
Oil painting (with probable gold applications) on canvas, a faithful copy of the famous "Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I" by Gustav Klimt, a masterpiece of the artist's golden period, today housed at the Neue Galerie in New York. The female figure, with abundant dark hair gathered, is portrayed bust-length with hands interlaced, wearing a necklace of choice and wide golden bracelets.
The dress and the background merge into a superb gilded mosaic decoration, with geometric motifs, spirals, stylized eyes, triangles and symbols drawn from Art Nouveau/Vienna Secession iconography;
the head is framed by a large ornamental disc with spirals and concentric circles.
Extensive use of gold leaf and silver details, contrast between the realistic complexion of the face and hands and the flat, ornamental and symbolic rendering of the dress and background — an unmistakable stylistic hallmark of Klimt.
This is an author’s copy, not the original work, created by an artist who is not famous.
