“PAIR OF SNOWY LANDSCAPES”, Manuel Ramos Artal (Madrid, 1855 – ca.1916), pair of oils on canvas mounted to cardboard.
Dimensions.- Framed: 35.0 x 30.0 cm. Unframed: 21.0 x 16.0 cm.
Both are hand-signed in the lower right corner “Ramos Artal”. One of them is also manually dated beneath the signature and underlined “1903”.
In good condition for the age of the works.

Manuel Ramos Artal (Madrid, 1855 – ca.1916) was a landscape painter trained at the Escuela Especial de Pintura de Madrid where his master was Carlos de Haes. In this way, he was a painter who cultivated plein air painting as preached by his renowned master. A great traveler, he toured, besides Spain, other European countries, representing the different landscapes he could observe on those journeys. Although he achieved important successes in various exhibitions, he also faced economic difficulties at times and, as an anecdote, it is said that on one occasion he raffled his paintings in a Madrid market, selling tickets to the people who were going to buy. Although we have not been able to verify the veracity of this anecdote.
In his palette greenish and ochre tones usually predominate. However in these landscapes his color palette is restricted to browns and ochres, which provides a new view of the chromatic range of his body of work.
