NWA 17583 is a splendid LL3 ordinary chondrite meteorite from Southern Algeria, Northwest Africa (Sahara Desert), weighing 36.17 g.

A splendid 36.17 gram individual of Northwest Africa 17583, an officially classified LL3 ordinary chondrite rare meteorite.
NWA 17583 was found in Southern Algeria in 2024 and officially classified by A. Greshake of the Museum für Naturkunde, Berlin. With a total approved mass of only 893 grams, distributed among several pieces, it is a relatively limited recent LL3 find. The classification was approved on 26 April 2025 and published in Meteoritical Bulletin 114.
The specimen is particularly attractive for its natural, sculpted shape and chondrule-rich exterior, which provides an unusually direct view of the primitive chondritic texture. Numerous well-defined chondrules can be distinguished across the surface, including partly flattened and closely packed examples. The Meteoritical Bulletin reports an average chondrule diameter of approximately 0.9 mm. These are embedded in a fine-grained dark-grey matrix containing sulfides and subordinate Fe-Ni metal.
The meteorite has a low weathering grade (W1) and shock stage S2, indicating that the material has undergone relatively limited terrestrial alteration..
