Description from the seller
Jordan Sheffield Collection - Large covered serving tray with metal silvered cloche - Italy, ca. 1950-1965
Elegant and important covered table service from the Jordan Sheffield Collection, made in Italy plausibly between the 1950s and the first half of the 1960s of the 20th century.
The piece stands out for its refined formal setup of classic English taste, reinterpreted according to the elegance of Italian production of the period.
The set consists of a large-shaped tray and a top covered element, characterized by a strongly sculpted body and a domed lid topped with a refined knob in the shape of a bud.
Particularly beautiful is the shape of the tray, developed along a sinuous and quadrilobed profile, with multiple and pronounced border. The same line is perfectly echoed by the underside of the covered element, creating an extremely harmonious and scenographic composition.
The silvered surface shows notable brilliance and particularly enhances the volumes, curves and deep moldings of the object. The construction appears solid and precise, with a total weight of about 1 kg.
The piece bears on the base the stamped mark “Jordan Sheffield Collection”, accompanied by additional factory stamps, as well as the rare original Jordan Sheffield Collection label still present. The mark and label are documented in the photographs.
The designation “Sheffield Collection” identifies the commercial line and the style of production and should not be confused with the ancient English Old Sheffield Plate.
Dimensions
Total height: about 20 cm
Maximum width of the tray: about 27 × 27 cm
Total weight: about 1 kg
Conditions
The item is presented in excellent vintage condition, particularly notable given its age.
The silvering is very well preserved, uniform and still extremely bright, with no evident losses of plating. Only the normal light surface traces compatible with age and prior use of the item are present.
The service retains an excellent aesthetic presence and, once polished, presents a particularly bright and reflective surface.
The photographs constitute an integral part of the description and allow a close observation of the conservation state, the workmanship, the original mark and label.
Packaging and shipping
Considering the articulated form of the object, each component will be carefully protected and packed separately, using suitable protective materials to avoid rubbing, impacts, and movement during transport.
The entire lot will then be placed in a robust outer package and suitably protected.
