Vintage nautical hourglass – Patinated bronze – Carved columns – Compass rose and stars – England, c. 1940–1950

Elegant and decorative vintage hourglass with nautical inspiration, probably made in England in the second half of the 20th century.

The piece features a classical architectural construction, formed by two large circular platforms — top and bottom — connected by three turned vertical columns, of a balustrade profile. The columns present a sequence of moldings and constrictions that provide great visual richness to the ensemble and recall the traditional turning used in furniture and decorative objects with maritime-inspired motifs.

The top part constitutes one of the most interesting elements of the piece. On its circular surface appears a radial motif similar to a compass rose or nautical compass, composed of a circular center from which several lines radiate to the edges. At the main points are observed star-shaped motifs, forming a composition of a clearly maritime and celestial character.
