One of the most numerous and important weapons in the inventory of the Fußartillerie (foot artillery) was the Model 1910 21cm Mörser (to the troops simply known as "Der Mörser"). When the war began in 1914, the German army could deploy 216 of these large howitzers. Because of the large projectile and the impressive range, these howitzers quickly became the standard indirect-fire weapon. As with many large-caliber weapons of the era, the 21cm Mörser had to be hauled by motor transport in two loads due to its weight. In this photo a crew of a 21cm Mörser 10 poses with the early short 2.57m (8 ft 5 in) L/12 barrel beside their Mörser. The 114 kg (252 lbs) high-explosive projectile is in the loading box, manually hoisted up to the same height as the chamber when the barrel was set horizontal.

21cm Mörser 10/16 Specifications:
Weight - 7.02 metric tons (15,496 lbs)
Range - 9.40 km (5.84 miles)
Manufacturer - Krupp
Barrel length - 2.13 meters (7 feet)
Projectile - 114 kg (252 lbs) High explosive
